FECAM Background

Electrical contractors' associations from various districts in Maharashtra joined hands to form "Federation of Electrical Contractors' Associations of Maharashtra" (FECAM) in the year 1999. the federation was duly registered with the Government of Maharashtra in 2000, with registration no. NTC/PN/164.

Electrical Contractors' Associations from Amravati, Ahmednagar, Buldhana, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Aurangabad, Pune, Solapur, and Nagpur are associated with FECAM. These associations represent 35 districts of Maharashtra, especially regions as Marathwada, Vidarbh-1, Western Maharashtra, Central Maharashtra, North Maharashtra, Vidarbh-2, Konkan, and Mumbai.

Each member association appoints council members on the Federation in proportion with its member strength. These council members elect Federation President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, and Managing Committee Members for the duration of two years.

According to provisions in Electricity Act 2003 of Government of India and Electricity Acts of Government of Maharashtra, Electrical Contractors' License is issued to person qualifying norms by Industry, Energy, & Labour ministries of Government of Maharashtra. It is mandatory to source all kinds of electrical works to licensed electrical contractors only.

Government licensed electrical contractors have established district associations, which work on district level problems and improvements. However, state-level problems of these contractors generated requirement of a state-level forum. Hence, "Federation of Electrical Contractors' Associations of Maharashtra" was founded.
